CacheNgin is a WordPress Caching Plugin that works with the built-in Nginx cache server called NCache.
CacheNgin comes with sample configuration files that are used to configure the Nginx web server to use its built-in NCache server. NCache is a web cache system base on nginx web server that is faster and more efficient than Squid. Since Nginx is fully integrated into the Nginx core, it can handle as much traffic as Varnish, but with more flexibility. Apache itself is not match for the speed of Nginx, which is why Apache is losing its market share to Nginx.
Many WordPress blogs use WP Super Cache or W3 Total Cache, and if they can afford a dedicated or cloud server, then perhaps they run Batcache. CacheNgin can replace all those options by connecting your WordPress blog directly to Nginx to handle any amount of traffic without so much as a hiccup.
Once Nginx is configured using the custom configuration files that come with CacheNgin, your WordPress blog will be able to handle traffic like the top 100 web sites in the world. A single core CPU cloud server, with 3 GB of RAM, could easily handle 30 million page views in a month, maybe more. If the database is configured properly, and Memcached and APC are installed, bigger traffic loads are possible.
The Nginx NCache server caches PHP pages as static HTML files, for a period of time you configure, the default is 10 minutes, then those static HTML files are server incredibly fast by Nginx. WordPress cookies, PHP Sessions, and everything else will work perfectly thanks to the custom Nginx configuration that comes with the CacheNgin WordPress plugin.
There are a lot of Nginx benchmarks available on the web, but not one shows a benchmark with WordPress + Nginx + NCache, for one simple reason, because CacheNgin is the first and only plugin that can connect WordPress to Nginx while NCache is actively configured for caching PHP into static HTML files.
If you need to server a ton of traffic, but can’t afford to keep adding CPUs, RAM, and servers, then you need CacheNgin.
